1990er-Jahre
Weichenstellung für eine neue Ära
At the beginning of the new millennium, the JAB ANSTOETZ Group continues to grow: as early as 1999, the Dutch fabric manufacturer Chivasso – with the Chivasso and Carlucci brands – became part of the group through shareholdings.
In 1998, following the death of Heinz Anstoetz, the company was renamed JOSEF ANSTOETZ KG. Heinz Anstoetz had already celebrated his 50th anniversary with the company in 1996 and subsequently retired from operational business.
In 1993, the largest expansion of the company headquarters to date took place.
In 1991, Stephan Anstoetz, Heinz Anstoetz's third son, also joined the company.
The 1990s began with two new establishments: JAB ANSTOETZ opened branches in Belgium and Spain.
THE EIGHTIES
AN IDEA TAKES SHAPE
1989 Chris-Jacob Schminnes joins the company. This now counts 935 employees.
In 1989, the company was further strengthened by the arrival of Claus Anstoetz, Ralph Anstoetz's brother.
In 1985, Ralph Anstoetz, Heinz Anstoetz's son, joined the company.
THE SEVENTIES
SOLID GROWTH
The non-profit Matthias-Anstoetz-Foundation was also established in 1979. It is committed to social projects and sustainable promotion.
In 1977, the new BW Bielefelder Werkstätten building at Potsdamer Straße 180 is completed. Two years later, JAB International Furnishings successfully enters the UK market.
JAB ANSTOETZ Carpets was founded in 1974, while the workforce grew to 507 employees. As early as 1973, the founding of Società Creazioni JAB in Milan and Rome promoted international business. In 1971, the computer age arrived at JAB with the first UNIVAC computer system.
THE SIXTIES
EXTENDED PERSPECTIVES
In 1968, JAB opens its first foreign branch: the Société des Créations JAB with showrooms in Paris and Lyon. One year later, JAB Dekorationen is founded - a production department that supports contract furnishers in the manufacture of high-quality decorations and upholstery.
In 1961, JAB begins to systematically develop the export market. The high-quality home textiles and upholstered furniture also meet with great interest internationally. By 1965, the workforce had grown to 157 employees, more than quintupling in just five years.
THE FIFTIES
FOUNDATIONS FOR NEW POSSIBILITIES
In 1959, construction begins on a large-scale business complex in Bielefeld-Oldentrup. Potsdamer Strasse 160 becomes JAB's new headquarters, while the first showrooms open in Germany at the same time.
In 1956, Heinz Anstoetz expands the JAB ANSTOETZ portfolio to include upholstered furniture and founds BW Bielefelder Werkstätten. In doing so, he lays the foundation for handmade furniture with the highest quality standards.
Following the sudden death of Josef Anstoetz in 1955, Heinz Anstoetz took over the management of the company. He had joined the company in 1951 and subsequently led the family business into the future.
Forties
BREAK-UP INTO THE FUTURE

By 1949, business was already flourishing so much that the rented premises in the ‘Spinnerei Vorwärts’ became too small after only three years.
Josef Anstoetz writes the first chapter in the company's history in 1946. Under the name JAB - short for Josef Anstoetz Bielefeld - he founds a wholesale business for decorative and upholstery fabrics.
